This is definitely one of the best free antivirus software to provide protection against spyware and rootkits.
In addition, it also protects against peer-to-peer threats andless instant messaging.

2. AVG is free
AVG Free is the most used item on this list as it is found on all of my kids’ computers.
This is a reliable anti-virus and anti-spyware solution for Windows users with the new LinkScanner Active Surf-Shield, which allows you to check and check the safety of web pages before clicking any links.
In addition, dialog boxes are added to search engine results pages to alert users if a specified entry is safe to visit.

3. Avira Antivir Personal
Avira Antivir Personal searches your computer for information about malware such as viruses, Trojans, worms, etc.

Unlike most of the other antiviruses I mentioned earlier, Clamwin is open source.

The downside of ClamWin, in my opinion, is the lack of a real-time scanner.
Instead, you need to manually scan the file to make sure it is infected with a virus or spyware.

I have not personally used the beta version of Microsoft Security Essentials as it was not available to users in the UK the last time I reviewed it.
If you are in the US, you are in better luck because you can now try this.
I’ve heard that it protects well against common suspects such as viruses, spyware, Trojans, worms, and other malware.
With automatic updates and upgrades, MSE Beta offers users what many expect from such a product: simplicity.
