My mailbox is full and I wanted to archive some of my old emails using automatic archiving. However, it looks like this feature is not available at all in Outlook.

What Is An Archive In Outlook?

Outlook Archive (and AutoArchive) moves old emails, tasks, and calendar items to an archive folder stored elsewhere on your hard drive. Technically speaking, archiving moves older items from the main PST file into a separate PST file archive that you can open in Outlook at any time. This will allow you to reduce the size of your mailbox and free up space on the C: drive (if you want to save the archive file elsewhere).

Depending on how you configured it, the Outlook archive can do one of the following:

  • Move emails and other items from their current folders to the archive folder.
  • Permanently delete old emails and other items after the specified time.

Solution For Finding Missing Archive Parameters

1. Remove update KB2412171

If you are using Microsoft Outlook 2007, the Auto Archive option is missing on cleanup in Outlook due to KB2412171 update. It is then advised to uninstall the update by following these steps.

  • First go to Control Panel and click Add / Remove Program.
  • Then click the option to display the installed updates.
  • Then select “Update MS Office (KB2412171)” and uninstall it.
  • Note. If you cannot uninstall the update from Control Panel, run System Restore and uninstall Office 2007, then reinstall and apply all updates except MS update. Office KB2412171.

    2. Ask the administrator about group policies
