Over the past few days, some of our readers have reported that they cannot open Microsoft Word 2008 on Mac.

  • Launch any Office for Mac application on your computer.
  • Click the Help menu, and then click Check for Updates.
  • Under How do you want to check for software updates, click Automatic. Click the Check for Updates button.

Reason

This error occurs when you move or duplicate an Office program.

1. Start Restoring Disk Permissions

Step 1. From the Go menu, select Utilities. Runthose Disk Utility.

Step 2. Select the primary hard drive of your computer. Then click the First Aid tab.

Step 3. Click “Run” to fix the errors and permissions of the disk volume. When done, click Finish.

 

 

Why isn’t my Microsoft Word not opening?

Close any Microsoft program running on your Mac and choose Word from the Apple menu. In the list, click Settings. Select the File Locations option, and then select the Custom Templates option. Find the file that was saved as usual and move it to your desktop.

Is Office for Mac 2008 still supported?

After next Tuesday, Microsoft will only officially support the last two versions of Office for Mac. Microsoft today announced that support for Office 2008 for Mac will end on April 9th.
