I recently worked on a project where I was asked to develop a custom Windows service in C# and have been doing it for a long time since I recently created it. I forgot how hard debugging is for simplicity. I explored and debugged the service by building it, running it, loading it, and then attaching it to a service process in Visual Studio. Sounds are a lot of work to implement when you need to think things through, right?

Instead, I’ll show your entire family a very basic debugging of a Windows service. There are a few caveats, but I’ll cover them in more detail at the end of this article.

After creating a Windows installation with an existing service open or installation, start the Configuration Manager and add a new running solution configuration. I usually simulate with the shortcut AND debug configuration “Debug NOSERVICE”. Then configure the application to create all the necessary project stalls and.

Then go to the projectFamily Houses (Alt + and Enter) and go to the “Construction” tab. First select the exact configuration of the new solution we just designed. This is a quick way to debug a Window Service a Project. As I mentioned above, there are limitations associated with debugging this way. With this approach, you can test this special logic when the service starts, but some objects don’t interact as they would if they were supporting a real Windows service. For example, if you have stuff in a ThreadPool queue, the OnStop action will not be called until the ThreadPool is empty.
