Microsoft has released an update for Windows that will remove Flash Player from Adobe before support ends 31December 2020

The KB4577586 update is part of Microsoft’s efforts to push announced plans with Adobe, Apple, Facebook, Google, and Mozilla, and will end support for Flash in 2017 until December 2020.

An update to remove flash was available for all supported versions of Windows 10 and Windows Server, as well as Windows 8.1.

In September, Microsoft confirmed that support for Adobe Flash Player for Chromium-based and Legacy Edge users, as well as Internet Explorer 15, would end at the end of 2020 and that Flash should be retained for industry-specific software packages. …

“Microsoft Edge will allow Adobe to load Flash Player as a plug-in via the Internet Explorer application feature . Internet by nature, Explorer 11 also allows this. Changed the type of changes made Adobe Flash Player provided by Microsoft will work with any other third-party add-ons and will certainly not receive support from Microsoft, ”Microsoft said at the time.

In the recent past, Microsoft worked with Adobe to release Flash updates related to the browser plug-in to keep end users safe from exploits and malware, buttargeting Flash Player vulnerabilities.

This new update removes Flash Player from Windows devices and can no longer be uninstalled, Microsoft says in a recent support notice .

However, it is not yet available through Windows Server Update Service (WSUS), and you need to download from the Microsoft Update Catalog to install it. It will be available for WSUS in early 2021, but today administrators can manually submit it to WSUS.

Microsoft also mentioned two methods that users and administrators can follow to continue using Flash Player after installing the update.

Users can restore a previous system restore point. However, browsers must explicitly enable a specific feature, and only one system restore point must be created on their Windows device before the update is applied. Another option is to reinstall without applying a Windows update.
