I was surprised when AVG stopped supporting WIN98SE at the end of April 2009. But I also had my suspicions. I realized that the latest version of Nie support would run and automatically add virus updates – it was no longer detected when they were notified. Since my last AVG Free related release was relatively new, I also thought they probably didn’t contribute as muchtheir any major improvements in how the software handles most of the file update processes.
So I go to the downloads page which is located at: http://free.avg or com/download-update to download the latest information about them (usually there are two virus files). Once upon a time, my desktop simply stopped setting the software to also look for files on the desktop and they were immediately found. The software systems did not show immediate signs of it working, but at some point a few minutes later this task confirmed that updates had been found, unpacked and downloaded. After that, AVG Free was updated earlier and worked fine for another 7 days.
From there, the same thing, after 7 days he tells me that he is overdue. I download the latest virus updates and repeat the whole process. A little inconvenience, far away.
Oh yes, he likes to remind me that I have to update the main software, and he annoyingly appears every morning and several months after every reboot of the system. But only two quick after replicas, it looks like hecan fall asleep again for another 24 hours, and I render myself.
One caveat: there didn’t seem to be any drastic changes in how the new software worked until the last update was delivered at the end of July. Now I’m noticing an inertia that never was.
