Over the past week, some users have reported to us that they encountered an out-of-memory error when running xcopy. XCOPY fails with a severe out of memory error if the path in addition to the file name exceeds 254 players. Use Robocopy instead – this is the optimal solution.

Today I ran into an interesting problem. I have a custom script that creates a local dump of one of the major releases on a server using this xcopy command. Long story short, after a few “accidents” where we messed up or deleted files on the server, we thought that letting people create local mirrors of their own desktops might be a bit better than restoring directly from 4 groups of times a day. ./C

I guess the message definitely refers not to the actual free storage device, but to the amount of space remaining in the buffer in the template file… At least I hope it means that. Either this Straight alias decided that “not enough memory”, one of those exceptions that has a clause “catch all exceptions and then errors here”.
