On a rough look at the Task Manager, you will see a process called “Print Spooler Subsystem Application”, “Print Spooler”, “print or spoolsv.exe”. This process is a normal part of Windows and supports printing. If a particular process is constantly using a large amount of CPU resources on the system, then there is a problem.

RELATED: What is this process and does it work on my computer?

This article is part of our current series that covers the various processes used in Task Manager such as Runtime Broker, svchost.exe, dwm.exe, ctfmon.exe, rundll32.exe, Adobe_Updater.exe, and many more. Don’t know what services are there? Better start reading!

What is a print spooler subsystem application?

This process is called the Print Spooler subsystem application, and the main document is called spoolsv.exe. He is responsible for the execution of print and fax jobs in Windows.

When you print something, the professional print is sent to the art print buffer, which is responsible for sending it to the printer. If the printer is offline or active, the dispatcher serviceand the print queue holds the print job and waits for the printer to be ready to send before turning it off.

This process also provides more interaction with your printers, including system printers. You won’t even be able to effectively use your cluttered list of printers if you turn them off. You will need this process if you want to print or fax to your Windows PC.

Why is it using so much CPU?

As a rule, this method of operation should not consume a lot of resources on your computer. It will use some kind of CPU resource when printing, and that’s ok too.

In some cases, we have reported high CPU usage by each of our spoolsv.exe processes. This is most likely due to a problem somewhere in the example Windows system. Possible problems could be that the print queue is full of jobs, printer drivers, or utilities in the recycle bin, or the printer is not configured correctly.

In Windows 7, navigate to the printer troubleshooter under Control Panel> System and Security> Find and Fix Problems. It will try to find and solve printing problems for you.

If the Image Printing Troubleshooter cannot find and solve a complex problem, it will display a search list for installed printing devices. In Windows 10, go to Settings> Peripherals> Peripherals to scan printers. In Windows 7, select Control Panel> Hardware and Audio Devices> and Printers.

Open the queue of each printer by clicking the printer and the Open Queue slider in Windows 10, or perhaps even double-clicking the printer in Windows 7. If your company is printing … click on it and select Cancel. You can click Printer> Cancel All Documents in the queue entry window.

In some cases, it may be necessary to remove all of the devices Add printers and then simply use the Nice Add Printer Wizard to add and reconfigure your enterprise. You may even need to uninstall the downloaded printer drivers, utilities, and the latest version from the manufacturer’s website. Aria-level = “2”

    Is it a virus?

This step is normal for some Windows. However, some applications try to impersonate malware masquerading as legitimate Windows measures to avoid detection. The actual report is called spoolsv. And the exe is located in C: Windows System32.
