Fix: How To Fix Error 691 On Dial-up Connection

Over the past week, some of our users have reported that they encountered error 691 when trying to connect remotely.

 

 

Error message “Error 691” when trying to connect to the provider

Check your username and password

Make sure that the CAPS LOCK key was not accidentally pressed and activated when entering the password.

Click Start, move the pointer over Connect To, and then click your dial-up connection.

In the Login dialog box, make sure your username and password are entered correctly in the Username and Password fields as indicated in your ISP.

Check phone number

Make sure you are using the correct phone number to connect to your ISP.

Allow insecure passwords

Click Start, select Control Panel, Network and Internet Connections, and then click Network Connections.

Click on your switch The connection you want to connect, and then under Network Tasks, select Change settings for this connection.

Click the Security tab and make sure Normal (Recommended) is selected.

Make sure the “Allow insecure password” checkbox is checked in the “Verify my identity as follows” box.

Click the Options tab.

Uncheck the “Enable domain for Windows logon” checkbox (if checked) and click OK twice.

Check the noise on the telephone line.

If the phone line is noisy, call the phone company to check the phone lines.

Reduce your connection speed

Click Start, select Control Panel, Network and Internet Connections, and then click Network Connections.

Click on your dial-up connection, and then under Network Tasks, select Change settings for this connection.

Open the General tab, click your modem in the Connect to field and click Configure.

In the Maximum speed (bps) box, click 9600, and then click OK twice.

Disable hardware flow control

Click Start, select Control Panel, Network and Internet Connections, and then click Network Connections.

Click on your dial-up connection, and then under Network Tasks, select Change settings for this connection.

Open the General tab, click your modem in the Connect to field and click Configure.

Uncheck “Enable hardware flow control” and click OK twice.

Disable modem error checking

Click Start, select Control Panel, Network and Internet Connections, and then click Network Connections.

Click on your dial-up connection and then under”Network Tasks” select Change settings for this connection.

Open the General tab, click your modem in the Connect to field and click Configure.

Uncheck “Enable modem error checking” and click OK twice.

Disable modem compression

Click Start, select Control Panel, Network and Internet Connections, and then click Network Connections.

Click on your dial-up connection, and then under Network Tasks, select Change settings for this connection.

Open the General tab, click your modem in the Connect to field and click Configure.

Uncheck the box next to “Compress modem compression” and click “OK” twice.

Disable software compression

Click Start, select Control Panel, Printers and Other Hardware, and then click Phone and Modem Options.

On the Modems tab, click the modem thatth need to be configured.

Click Properties.

Click the “Advanced” tab.

Click Change Default Settings.

In your data connection settings, click Disabled in the compression list.

Disable LCP extensions

You may have difficulty connecting to your ISP if your ISP’s Point-to-Point Protocol (PPP) server does not have Link Control Protocol (LCP) ).

Follow these steps to disable LCP extensions:

Click Start, select Control Panel, Network and Internet Connections, and then click Network Connections.

Click on your dial-up connection, and then under Network Tasks, select Change settings for this connection.

On the Networking tab, click Settings and uncheck the Enable LCP Extensions checkbox.

Disablel compress the IP header

You may have problems registering with your ISP if you are using IP header compression (also known as en. -head Van Jacobson or VJ compression). To disable IP header compression, follow these steps:

Click Start, select Control Panel, Network and Internet Connections, and then click Network Connections.

Click on your dial-up connection, and then under Network Tasks, select Change settings for this connection.

On the Networking tab, click Internet Protocol (TCP / IP), and then click Properties.

Click Advanced and uncheck the Use IP header compression box.

Click OK.

Error 691 “The remote connection was rejected because the username / password combination you specified was not recognized or the selected authentication protocol was not allowed on the access server remotely. It can also increase the number of bad passwords for the domain user, resulting in the account being locked on September 8, 2020.

Possible solution for error 629: Restart your computer and wait until all applications are fully loaded before trying to reconnect. Reestablish the dial-up connection. If the problem is still not resolved, uninstall and then reinstall the broadband modem.
