Files or 3ds Max installation may have been corrupted. Some components required for 3ds Max to work may be missing or duplicated for the installed version.

Affected DLL files may include but are not limited to:

  • Link to Nvidia Nview Software
  • Link to multiple MaxtoA installations
  • Link to the V-Ray Renderer
  • Link to QT-specific files:
    • Qt5Gui.dll
    • Qt5Core.dll
    • Qt5Widgets.dll
    • Qt5WebEngineWidgets.dll

Sometimes, corrupted DLL or DLL files can be identified by navigating to their installation location and checking the size of their files. A 0 byte file means that the file was not installed correctly because the antivirus or system optimizer blocked the file, or because the installation file was corrupted.

Install the latest NVIDIA mental ray and IRay ( for 3ds Max 2017.

    If the problem persists:

    1. Copy the entire contents of the Plugins NVIDIA Bin folder directly to the root directory: C: Program Files Autodesk 3ds Max . (Do not cut the contents of the folder.)
    2. Restart 3ds Max and the error should not occur and load the render plugins.
