Hello,
Manasa P – Microsoft Support.

What Is Mshtml.dll? What Does Abbreviated Mean

The size of this DLL file is 18.43 MB for the 32-bit version and 23.46 MB for the 64-bit version. The download links are free of errors. It has already been downloaded 9830 times and received 4.2 out of 5 points.

Method 1: Update Internet Explorer To The Latest Version

Since the mshtml.dll file cannot be registered after Internet Explorer 6, it is best to update your version of IE. Microsoft has done a very good job of fixing the mshtml.dll incompatibility issues. Upgrading to Internet Explorer 11 will likely fix any underlying browser issues caused by the DLL file.

Note: Please note that the following procedure does not allow you to register the mshtml.dll file (you still receive the same error message when you try to register it), but you can remove any functional problems caused by this file.

Please update IE to the latest version available by following this Microsoft link (here). Choose aYour Windows version and download the appropriate IE version for your Windows bit version.

Note 1: An easier way to update Internet Explorer to the latest version available for your operating system is to use Windows Update. Press Windows Key R and type “check for updates”. Press Enter to open Windows Update. Then click the Check for updates box and apply all of them.

If you are using Windows 8.1 or Windows 10, Internet Explorer 11 is already preinstalled. If you’re using Windows 10, open Edge and see if it has We have the same problems. Otherwise, see the following methods for further instructions.

Method 2: Downgrade Internet Explorer (Windows Vista, XP)

regsvr32 i mshtml.dll windows xp

We have already noticed that the error Mshtml.dll was loaded, but the DllRegisterServer entry point was not found. This file cannot be saved. It is harmless as long as it does not affect the performance of your browser. However, some users may need to specifically register the DLL to resolve an incompatibility issue with a legacy application that requires registering the Mshtml.dll file. In this case, the solution is to downgrade Internet Explorer as much as possible (to IE 6) – when the mshtml.dll file was registered.

To do this, press Windows Key R and enter “appwiz.cpl”. Press Enter to open Programs and Features.

Internet Explorer is classified as a Windows component and therefore cannot be removed by traditionalm way. In the Programs and Features window, click View Installed Updates. Then scroll down to Internet Explorer 11 (or earlier), right-click it and select Uninstall.

You will be warned that this change will change some other Windows functionality. Click Yes, then select Restart Now.

After downgrading IE, we will register the Mshtml.dll file. To do this, press Windows Key R to open the Run command, type “regsvr32 mshtml.dll” and press Enter. If successful, you should see the following message: “DLRegisterServer in mshtml.dll completed successfully.”

Note. Please note that you cannot upgrade to IE 6 on Windows 7 or later. You can only revert to Internet Explorer 8. In this case, check if the legacy application incompatibility issue persists after downgrading. If so, follow method 1 again to update IE to the latest version, then go to method below.

Method 3: Using System Restore (Windows 7)

If the above instructions do not work on your Windows 7 computer, there are several options for using a System Restore Point in the hope that this will fix the problem.

Note. System Restore is a recovery tool that you can use to undo certain changes made to your operating system. Think of it as the “o” function for the most important parts of Windows.

Here’s a quick guide to restore your system to a previous point:

  1. Press Windows Key R to open the Run command. Type rstrui and press Enter to open System Restore.
  2. In the first window, click Next and select the Show additional restore points check box. Select a restore point if this is your first time experiencing incompatibility issues with Internet Explorer. Click the Next button to continue.
  3. Click “Finish”, then click “Yes” at the next prompt to start the recovery process. After the recovery is complete, your computer will automatically restart. After restoring the operating system to a previous version, check to see if the incompatibility issues with the Mshtml.dll file have been resolved.
