I have the same error. It was nice to do my job, so I suspect the latest development broke something.

tl; dr: instructions for reading and collecting and installing PREFIX and / or LD_LIBRARY_PATH

I did what I usually don't and put together ffmpeg today because the ffmpeg-user mailing collection only requires / strongly prefers / supports the current git vertex. I didthis is because I had corrupted AVI files that was also wondering if they could be recovered:

Since I recently compiled ffmpeg, I thought I was going to get build statistics from John Van Sickle, but they are a little out of date.

Then I got the ffmpeg source, configure ... which I thought should be sane, but got: Error in Internet Shared Libraries: libavdevice. so.59: can open a shared object file: there is no such file or there may be a directory . My system library libavdevice was version 58. Hmm. I thought I compiled statically, but:

./ffmpeg: ELF LSB 64-bit Pie executable, x86-64, specific version 1 (SYSV), dynamically linked, interpreter /lib64/ld-linux-x86-64.so.2, BuildID [sha1] = 6b4340cce612e0ccba534da4100c363d4aa578ef, for GNU / Linux 4.4.0, not removed

I feel compelled to admit that due to make I had to run a strange product binary out of the box * without further interaction; take simple compilation for granted.

It's much easier to gain traction in the long run; but I didn't want to clutter up System, my package handled binaries or libraries. Fortunately, this is possible with the PREFIX config option, specifically: Contains “ prefix / lib: commonly generated libraries (like libavutil, libavcodec, libavformat, etc. in the FFmpeg method) â € œ.

    * It is still possible to tell ffmpeg where to examine libraries by prefixing sell for LD_LIBRARY_PATH = / path / to / lib
